Umar Al Khattab (RA): I am just a man from amongst the Muslims

Umar b. Al-Khattâb (Radiallahu anhu) said:

Nothing is permitted for ‘Umar from the wealth of Allâh except two garments: one for winter and one for summer [heat], and what I need to carry me to Hajj and ‘Umrah.

And the provisions for my family are that of an [average] man of the Quraysh: neither the richest nor the poorest amongst them.

After that, I am just a man from amongst the Muslims.

~ Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)

I am surprised at three things ~ Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)

"I am surprised at three things: 1. (A) man runs from death while death is inevitable. 2. One sees minor faults in others, yet overlooks his own major faults. 3. When there is any defect to one's cattle he tries to cure it, but does not cure his own defects." ~ Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)
