Must keep to the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh)

An-Nawawi’s Hadith No.28

On the authority of Abu Najih Al-Erbadh ibn Sariah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes.

We said: "O Messenger of Allah (pbuh), it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so counsel us."

He said: "I counsel you to fear Allah and to give absolute obedience even if a slave becomes your leader. Verily he among you who lives [long] will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Rashidite Caliphs - cling to them stubbornly. Beware of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a going astray, and every going astray is in Hell-fire."

It was related by Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, who stated it as a Hasan (fair) and Sahih (sound) Hadith.

Sadaqah (charity) can Guard ourselves from the Hell Fire

`Adi bin Hatim (Radhiallaho anha) reported:

Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,

"Guard yourselves against the Fire (of Hell) even if it be only with half a date-fruit (given in charity); and if you cannot afford even that, you should at least say a good word.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary:
This Hadith highlights the point that Sadaqah has great benefits and even in its minimum scope and quantity it can ensure our safety against Hell-fire. We are told that if we do not have even a single date or half of it to give to a needy person, we can manage to have the same benefit by talking to him in a compassionate tone, provided we have Faith in our heart.

Do not invoke curses on yourself and regret it all your life

Jabir (Radhiallaho anha) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,

"Do not invoke curses on yourself or on your children or on your possessions lest you should happen to do it at a moment when the supplications are accepted, and your prayer might be granted.''

[Muslim]

Commentary:
Almighty Allah always listens to everyone's prayer but He has fixed certain times when He grants more prayers addressed to Him. Therefore, one should never curse oneself or one's own children or one's own business, etc., lest this is done at the time when prayers are accepted by Allah and then one has to regret it all his life.
